Monika Sandvik-Nylund is the Senior Regional Protection Adviser (Children) for the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). She is based in Nairobi and covers covers Eastern Africa and the Great Lakes Region. She has worked for the last 20 years in the field of child protection and humanitarian affairs. She has previously worked with UNICEF, UNOCHA and with the UN Mission in Sudan, as well as, Save the Children. She has also lived and worked in Sudan, Switzerland, DRC, Sri Lanka and Thailand. She has an LL.M from Columbia University and an MA Pol. Sc from Abo Akademi University, Finland. Prior to her academic studies she trained and worked as a Registered Nurse and Community Worker.
