June 24, 2016 Webinar: How can social norms theory inform violence prevention work?

Is violence a social norm? What is the difference between a “social” and a “cultural” norm? Can social norms be measured? These are some of the key issues that we discussed on our webinar on Friday, Jun 24, 2016, at 10:00 AM EDT, which featured Alina Potts, Research and Evaluation Specialist for Child Protection at UNICEF’s Office of Research-Innocenti and Beniamino Cislaghi, Lecturer in Social Norms at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Understanding social norms is a key aspect of crafting violence prevention interventions and policies as well as evaluating their efficacy and appropriateness. While multiple theories exist, this webinar shared learning from some of the main principles and learning employed by violence prevention initiatives being undertaken by UNICEF, the World Health Organization, LSHTM, and others.
